No Minor Clan was more perfectly positioned to take advantage of the new galactic ecosystem than the Tortoise. They had always been ready and willing to adopt new technologies and ideas; their mandate was to guard against gaijin invasion and interference at the behest of the Emperor himself, after all. Their skill in sailing quickly translated to the stars, and while the Mantis gained immense wealth from claiming new worlds, the Tortoise quietly set about earning theirs from building an intergalactic freight empire based out of their new homeworld, a largely oceanic planet called Kasuga no Hoshi. They’ve since become the richest Minor Clan, outshining even the Tanuki and the Boar. Of course, much of their wealth has come from their other longstanding area of expertise: the Kasuga are the finest smugglers in the galaxy, able to slip cargo into or out of ports before the authorities realize it’s even been there. This practice is an open secret, and yet no one ever seems to be able to catch them in the act. Most of the other clans may look down on the Tortoise as low-born ruffians, but the Kasuga will get the last laugh; after all, even the high and mighty Lion and Phoenix will still come calling whenever they need to move precious cargo from Point A to Point B with alacrity.
