When the Emerald Star Empire came to the other human nations and insisted they be relocated to new planets, it was the Thrane (and residents of Merenae, who had by that time been absorbed into the Thranish Empire) who resisted the most. Unfortunately for them, their firearms technology was nothing in the face of Rokugani magic and the new radiant weapons. The War of Remembrance was over quickly, but it was anything but bloodless. Half of the remaining Thrane and Merenae accepted the terms imposed by their conquerors and moved to a new world called King’s Crest, the planet which still forms the seat of their small but burgeoning star empire. The other half, however, refused to give up the fight. These Thranish and Merenaean rebels instead launched a series of daring raids, stealing as many transport ships as they could and escaping into the reaches of space for parts unknown. They were never seen nor heard from again. The Thrane on King’s Crest assume they simply died in the far reaches of space – and since hard feelings remain towards Rokugan, they haven’t particularly been inclined to share more of their thoughts even to the present day. They harbor a particular hatred towards the Lion, whom they (with some justification) blame for war crimes conducted during the War of Remembrance.
