The Shark Clan

There is no clan called the Shark – and as far as the Imperial Histories are concerned, there never was. The Jirozane family eventually had all of their territory and history expunged by an Emperor after their depredations and their disregard for basic decency became a little too public and a little too hard to ignore and the Mantis pushed for their destruction. The clan was disbanded, their members scattered to the Four Winds – but this is Rokugan, and violent, dangerous ideas can be incredibly hard to kill. Though the members of the Jirozane were ultimately hunted down and killed, or died in obscurity, their story lived on, particularly among the less reputable elements of the Mantis. When Rokugan took to the stars, some of these elements cast off their clan identity and banded together as the “Shark Clan,” an unsanctioned, crude mockery of Rokugani society.

Living on repurposed biohabitats in the asteroids and abandoned mining stations of the Mako’s Reach, the Jirozane – bonded by a shared love of violence and treasure, and precious little else – are the most notorious bandits in the galaxy, capable of hitting quickly enough that their victims seldom have time to do anything but die. Though the Jirozane will attack anyone, they take particular joy in attacking Mantis shipping, part of their twisted ongoing vendetta against the clan that helped destroy their forebears. The fact the Mantis have not yet been able to destroy this group of pirates is a source of much consternation – and much mockery in the Imperial Courts from courtiers of the Lion and Phoenix.
