The hare are still as they ever were: tireless anti-maho detectives and magistrates who occasionally get nearly wiped out by one Great Clan or another. Still, the Hare, one of the few Minor Clans with two families, are ever-persevering, and indeed, space exploration has given them a little bit of breathing room. Their single world, which they’ve named “The Burrow,” is neither rich nor poor, but gives them solid ground for Usagi or Ujina magistrates to return to after one of their long investigations. The sight of a Hare in a space station or major city gives everyone pause -- although, in an interesting reversal, the alliance of convenience with the Scorpion at the outset of the War of the Broken Sun has proved enduring, as the Hare are not just welcomed but treated with surprising deference on the World of Dreams.
The Scorpion, it seems, have long since learned their lesson about underestimating Minor Clans, and instead now seek to co-opt them as much as possible -- not that the Hare are complaining about their now-longtime benefactors. Indeed, in the 30th century, when the Lion were on the verge of continuing the tradition or trying to wipe out the Hare after an Usagi magistrate exposed a high-ranking maho-tsukai in the Kitsu family, they found their vanguard ships in the vicinity of The Burrow suddenly struck with all sorts of malicious computer viruses. Though no one can prove the Kochako family was behind it, the Lion wisely decided the Hare weren’t worth their time.
