It seems strange to think a Minor Clan once spawned another Minor Clan, but the Deer Clan are living proof. Toku Toyotomi was much the typical Monkey Clan bushi: daring, courageous, completely implacable in the face of impossible odds. Still, he was a Minor Clan samurai, and not much was expected of him. Then came the Crisis on Infinite Realms of the 24th century, and suddenly, heroes had come from the most unexpected places. Though Ichiro Gozaru was the leader of the Rokugani forces during the conflict, Toku Toyotomi became its greatest hero, capturing the Rokugani public’s imagination on broadcasts throughout the empire with his repeated acts of daring in helping beat back the forces of the encroaching spirit realms. Near the end of the conflict, Toyotomi sacrificed himself to stop a Toshigoku incursion – but his name would live on. His son was granted a family name after his father, becoming Toyotomi Hidetada, and permission to found a new clan. In keeping with his father’s role in Rokugan’s greatest spiritual conflict, the Deer Clan were given the mandate to keep track of and venerate the Fortunes – particularly the lesser-known ones. Today, the Deer travel the galaxy in search of adventure, venturing forth from their forest homeworld of Shikanosuke no Hoshi, spreading word of the lesser-known members of the Rokugani cosmology as they go.
