The Bee Clan

There was never a more obscure minor clan than the Bee. The Hachi, the greatest art critics in Rokugan, were only ever known in very specific artistic circles, and for much of their history, there were never more than ten samurai members of the Clan. What a difference time can make. While still small, the reputation of the Bee only grew as they evolved past simple painting and sculpture criticism and into criticism of literally every new and growing art form: music, movies, even competition sports like dueling, go, and kemari (the only sport where they typically refrain from competition is sadane -- primarily because they compete in it on the same level as the Doji, the Bayushi, and the Date). As mass communications took over Rokugan and then spread to the Empire of Emerald Stars, the Bee found themselves suddenly thrust into the galactic entertainment spotlight, and their trademark acerbic wit was not found wanting. Today, they are one of the best-known minor clans in the galaxy.

In addition to their traditional duties, the Bee have taken their expertise in the history of visual art and applied it in an entirely new way: the Hachi are now also considered the finest appraisers of antiquities of any family in any clan. Though the Bee do possess a single world -- New Hachi, an immaculately-maintained garden planet renowned for its stunning vistas -- the center of their clan has to be the large space station known as The Hive, located directly at the junction point of the territories controlled by the Crane, Lion, Scorpion, and Mantis, and very near to the Burning Stars Six station that serves as the home of the Silkworm.
