Alone among the foreign nations, the Ashalan were not part of the Great Relocation. The answer why was simple: they had already left. Having witnessed firsthand the Phoenix’s new mastery of warp travel, the Ashalan alone were able to reverse-engineer what the Isawa had done – not altogether surprising, considering they are a race of sorcerors. Though small in number, the Ashalan carved out a new home on one world, naming it Ki’Lai Jeenlau. When Mantis surveyors found this settlement some centuries into space travel, they were immediately turned back – the Ashalan were in no mood to hand over their new possessions. The Mantis, busy expanding in every unoccupied direction, wisely decided Ki’Lai Jeenlau – a world without much in the way of obvious natural resources in any case – wasn’t worth it. The Ashalan have had virtually no contact with the Emerald Empire in the time since, preferring to keep to themselves.
